JOAO, a neologism that combines joy and water, essential elements in the journey of this young singer-songwriter. At the age of 22, the artist, passionate about music and surfing, already has a taste for the unknown and has traveled to numerous shores, including those of the island of Oléron where he currently resides.
Born in Guadeloupe and raised in different islands of the Caribbean, he spent a childhood punctuated by simple pleasures in a lush environment. Beaches, forests, fishing, and surfing were part of his daily life and became the foundation of his passions. As the son of music lovers, JOAO has also been immersed in music from a young age. By accompanying his parents to concerts and rehearsals, he unconsciously absorbed the musical foundations that would guide his vocation. Enriched by his experiences, his learning process developed without formal music theory, and he approached this major art form intuitively.

Using the language he learned on the island of Dominica, he refines his lyrics in English and carefully crafts his compositions on the guitar. His ballads, characterized by their natural and authentic style, outline a purified folk universe, enriched by a gentle intensity that owes much to his pure voice with its diverse shades. JOAO composes and delivers a moment, a feeling, like a photograph set to music to share his emotions. His songs are an invitation to travel, and his melodies embrace and transport listeners with their fluid and captivating rhythms.

In July 2019, he recorded his first 6-track EP, in a single take, on tape without a click track, capturing the essence of his compositions without artifice. Now available on all streaming and download platforms, ‘The Beginning Of The End’ will charm anyone in search of sweetness and serenity during these particularly troubled times.
